Wyfold Court Refurbishment - South Oxfordshire

This 1870's mansion is set within eight acres of formal gardens with picturesque fountain and one hundred and seventy acres of well kept parkland. Formally a family home designed for cotton magnate and Conservative politician Edward Hermon, it was sold to the Government who converted it into a mental health hospital, and was part of the NHS in 1948 through to 1993. It has since been converted into individual private apartments.

Its style combines the flamboyant period of French Gothic architecture with a touch of Scots Baronial. The front façade pictured above, has imposing towers with corner turrets, magnificent gargoyles and traceried windows, and the main entrance features stained glass windows featuring crests of past King’s and Queen’s of England. With such decadent surroundings, it was a pleasure to be commissioned to work on a refurbishment of one of the apartments.

For the refurbishment, we worked across all rooms including bathroom, living room and bedrooms. We removed all old wall paper, filled and made good all walls and ceilings, and completed an extensive process of papering the walls, and making good all windows applied with two coats of Farrow and Ball eggshell, and chandelier repairs.

Throughout the project we provided plastic sheeting and taped up all necessary objects to ensure the refurbishment was completed in a clean and protected environment. Our customers were a delight to work for, generously providing the team with tea and biscuits. The completed project met the originally planned timescales, and received full approval from the customer.
